Atalaya Golf course
Location:- Costa del Sol
Two Courses here
Atalaya golf and country club is the official headquarters of
the PGA of Europe which covers 29 countries and 7.500 golf professionals,
and has been one of the most popular clubs on the Costa del Sol
since its opening in 1968. Situated between Marbella and Estepona,
it is suitable for all levels of play from total beginners to professionals,
due to the diversity of its tees.
Old course
6142 Metres- Par 72
Atalaya Old Course was designed by Bernhard Von Limburger in 1967.The
course is flat with wide fairways surrounded by tall pines and luxurious
vegetation. The course has large, and mostly elevated greens.
This parkland course features eucalyptus, olive and pine trees,
which line the fairways, giving pleasant shade in the summer but
melting out their own punishment for inaccurate shots.
The 1st is a forgiving opening hole-downhill slight dog leg left.
3 wood or long iron down the right side leaving short iron. Trees
will block out second shot if hit too much to the left.
The 5th is a genuine par 5. A good shot and a long iron or wood
will leave you in good shape of the ditch which crosses the fairway
at about 70 metres. A short iron third to a long narrow green. A
deep bunker guards the right side of the green and is definitely
not the place to be!
New Course
5325 Metres - Par 72
Atalaya New Course was opened in 1991, and is more gently sloping
than its sister course.
It is close to the Old Course but faces inwards towards the mountains.
Its strategic position gives it spectacular panoramic views. It
is a course which is suitable for players of all levels and this
has made it one of the most popular courses of the Costa del Sol.
This is an undulating, often narrow and occasionally tree-lined
holiday golf course with some good sea views. More difficult than
its 6 short p4s, 5 p3s and 5 p5s suggest; thoughtful irons off the
tee are rewarded. Higher parts exposed to wind. Some water carries.
Putt carefully!
Practice facilities are excellent and Atalaya, which offers one
of the largest driving ranges in Spain. The club also offers tuition
in several languages. Both courses are kept in good condition and
provide a good challenge. |
