Bonalba Golf Course, Muchamel, Costa Blanca
The Bonalba Golf Club was opened in 1995 and lies in the Bonalba mountains
that over look the Mediterranean and the suburbs of Alicante.
Several lakes and numerous bunkers make Bonalba one of the toughest courses
on the Costa Blanca. Bonalba Golf Club have recently opened a brand new
'Spa' that is an exciting addition to this superb resort.
There are many superb Villas and bungalows surrounding the course that
are available for hire. Located only 20 minutes from Alicante this is
an exceptional resort that will make your Golf holiday in Spain a truly
memorable occasion.
Hole 1 is a Par 4 at 375 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.5
Bonalba Golf Club starts off with a dog leg to the right par 4, OOB to
the right so a straight drive is needed. Second is uphill and deceptive
so take enough club. We played greensomes here and my partner and I took
a five.
Hole 2 is a Par 5 at 509 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.9
A par five that's pretty straight, there are bunkers all down the left,
as we found out! Bunker off the tee, bunkered after two, another after
three, in the bunker short of the green for 4 and two putts.
Hole 3 is a Par 4 at 338 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.13
'Short-ish' par 4, OOB left and a bunker short right are the only problems.
Not for us though, hit a corking drive and hit an 8 iron to 6 foot! Birdie!
Hole 4 is a Par 3 at 175 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.17
Downhill par 3, ideal for nearest the pin competition. More bunker trouble
for us, took a 4
Hole 5 is a Par 5 at 487 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.11
Long par 5, tee shot and second just need to be straight, long hitters
keep to the right or the lake will collect your second. We took bogie
again.
Hole 6 is a Par 4 at 323 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.7
Like most new golf courses in Spain a huge lake is the always a feature
somewhere. This hole can be intimidating but the further you hit the ball
the wider the fairway is so don't play safe! If you hit a decent drive
you'll only have a short iron to the green. We took 5 again.
Hole 7 is a Par 4 at 395 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.1
OOB to the right and the lake to the left! The widest part of the fairway
is 220 yards off the yellow tees so a 3 wood is the club. It will mean
a long second but better safe that wet!! We did all that right and then
3 putted!! Frustrating game!
Hole 8 is a Par 3 at 168 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.15
Bonalbas second par 3 is slightly longer than the first one but an equally
good golf hole. The shoulder of the bunker comes across the green from
the left, so the ball will feed in from that side. We putted better this
time and got our par.
Hole 9 is a Par 4 at 397 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.3
The drive isn't as tight as it looks. The further you hit it the safer
you'll be. There's a bunker short right of the green which slopes from
back to front. Back to bogies for us.
Golf Holidays Abroad Course Review
Hole 10 is a Par 4 at 350 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.12
There is a lake on the left, but you would have to be very long to go
in it of the tee. If you stay to the right you should be okay, take enough
club to go over the bunker short right or you'll be take 5 or 6 here.
Hole 11 is a Par 3 at 181 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.18
Uphill long par 3, the green slopes from back to front and is very fast
from above the hole, as I found out! Good second putt got us a par though.
The course now climbs a little for some great views over Alicante and
the Costa Blanca.
Hole 12 is a Par 4 at 396 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.2
Left half of the fairway is the best place for a drive here. The approach
shot is uphill so again club selection is vital. We got it wrong and took
6!!
Hole 13 is a Par 5 at 493 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.8
Dogleg par 5 that's uphill for the last third, don't drive through the
fairway into the bunker, then miss the fairway bunkers and take enough
club for your third, par for us.
Hole 14 is a Par 3 at 184 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.16
A downhill par three to a large green not too much trouble on this one,
three putts cost us a four.
Hole 15 is a Par 5 at 486 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.14
Straight downhill par 5, keep it straight and there shouldn't be a problem
here.
Hole 16 is a Par 4 at 362 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.4
Bonalba's signature hole, don't try to cut the corner, it's a long way
and very little to gain, keep to left of the fairway and play a medium
iron into the target, watch the bunkers short of the green, we found them
but got up and down for a sandy par. A great golf hole!
Hole 17 is a Par 4 at 389 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.6
You would have to be a very long hitter to reach the lake off the tee,
the further right you go the less the lake cuts into the green but it
also makes the second shot longer, no mistakes here we got a regulation
4.
Hole 18 is a Par 4 at 359 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.10
The last hole is fairly easy, the biggest problem was putting out on a
tricky green, three putts again!!
Now for the clubhouse! Which is typical of many clubhouses in Spain,
and this golf club is no exception as theirs has great facilities and
is excellent. (And the Beer very cold!!)
