El Chaparral Golf Course
Location:- Costa del Sol
El Chaparral Golf Club is an 18 hole championship golf course which sweeps
along the undulating coastline of Mijas Costa, and is approximately 20
minutes drive from Malaga.
As soon as the Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo was commissioned, the local
golfing fraternity waited with baited breath to see if he could surpass
his other design triumphs at Torrequebrada and Golf del Sur. They were
not disappointed.
The golf course and its clubhouse are unique on the Costa del Sol. Practically
every hole overlooks the sea, and the nature of the terrain, the indigenous
vegetation and pine forests ensure that no two holes are alike. This is
a beautiful and challenging course to play.
El Chaparral Golf Club has six par 3´s, six par 4´s and six
par 5´s. Only Alicante Golf Club on the Costa Blanca can boast such
uniqueness.
Here your attention is distracted only by the panorama and the warm see
breezes. You will truly feel that you Golf Holiday in Spain has begun.
The scent of the Mediterranean brush and pine will give you a true feel
of Spain.
El Chaparral Golf Club is a golfers paradise and a truly great choice
for your Golf Holiday in Spain.
Course Review of El Chaparral Golf Club - Costa del
Sol, Spain
Hole 1 is a Par 4 at 337 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.7
A great opening par 4 and a taste of things to come, the drive is over
a barranca to an uphill fairway. Best to keep the drive slightly to the
right hand side of the fairway as a tree on the left blocks out a clear
shot to the green. The green is two tiered and if you get above the hole
expect a lightening fast putt to a bottom hole location. A great opener!
Hole 2 is a Par 3 at 174 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.9
The tee shot is crucial on this hole, a large barranca stretches from
the tee to green so don’t be short! Or it will be the last you see
of your shiny new Pro V1. The green is large and sits across diagonally
making it very narrow. Make sure you take enough club - better to be slightly
long here.
Hole 3 is a Par 5 at 477 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.1
A tricky par 5. The tee shot needs to be to the right hand side of the
fairway to see straight down the hole. A ditch crosses the fairway approximately
100 metres from the green so a poorly struck tee shot will need a lay
up to leave a third shot to a narrow long green. The longer hitters can
get near in 2 shots but don’t go left of the green as your ball
will find a watery grave.
Hole 4 is a Par 3 at 198 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.3
A long par 3, which for most will need a fairway wood to reach, there
is a large barranca to the left of the teeing area but should not come
into play.
Hole 5 is a Par 4 at 322(Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.15
A tactical par 4, which requires accuracy off the tee to a green guarded
by trees - a tricky pin to access if on the right hand side of the green.
Also the green is quick from back to front so avoid going too long.
Hole 6 is a Par 5 at 493 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.13
A reachable par 5 as it plays down hill, better to stay right hand side
of the fairway on the tee shot to give you a better view of the green.
The green is surrounded by trees and a water hazard to the left - DON’T
GO LONG! Club selection is vital, if going for the green in two err on
the side of caution, better to be short than long.
Hole 7 is a Par 5 at 459 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.11
Another par 5, off the back tee a drive again is required over a barranca.
A better angle and view of the green is to drive left hand side of the
fairway. It is possible for the longer hitters to reach however there
is a bunker guarding the front of the green. If you are laying up stay
left as it gives you a third shot with a clear view of the green.
Hole 8 is a Par 4 at 320 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.5
A tricky par 4 which again requires a tactical approach. You tee off from
an elevated position with a dry bed water hazard running down the right
hand side of the hole, an iron off the tee is the play here leaving a
fairly short iron into the green. If you try to cut of the corner of the
dog leg beware there is a tree in the middle of the fairway waiting to
block your view, just around the dog leg.
Hole 9 is a Par 4 at 321 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.17
You are not able to see the green from the tee on this hole. Keep your
drive to the left as there is a fairway bunker to the right hand side,
if you go long on your second shot out of bounds awaits you, so choose
your club carefully - short is better than long.
Hole 10 is a Par 3 at 162 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.14
A picturesque par 3, you tee off from an elevated position with views
of the med to a green approximately 30 feet below you. The green slopes
from back to front so avoid going too long, plays a bit shorter than it’s
yardage due to the drop in elevation.
Hole 11 is a Par 5 at 443 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.6
A great par 5 with a snake effect fairway, the drive is tight and you
need to find the centre. The second shot is played over trees to an elevated
green. Walk up to the green and check where the pin is because if you
get above the hole with a pin on the bottom the putt is like lightening,
a fantastic hole!
Hole 12 is a Par 4 at 302 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.8
The tee shot is from an elevated position with lots of trouble on the
right so stay left. A driver is not really needed here, a fairway wood
or rescue leaves a short iron into a small green with a ditch at the front
so don’t be short.
Hole 13 is a Par 5 at 450 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.12
A long uphill par five the drive is straight-forward with a second shot
to a blind green. The green is only 20 to 30 metres over the hill - don’t
go too long here as the putt from the back of the green to a front pin
is probably the fastest on the course.
Hole 14 is a Par 3 at 163 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.4
A nice par 3, which can play long depending on the wind, the green is
well guarded by bunkers catching an errant tee shot.
Hole 15 is a Par 4 at 287 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.16
How brave are you? The longer hitters can cut the corner here and get
near to the green but bunkers guard the front. The play here is to play
to the right hand side of the fairway and it will leave you a fairly short
iron to the green, which slopes back to front.
Hole 16 is a Par 3 at 105 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.18
A short par 3 guarded by two trees in the front of the green. The green
is narrow and sits diagonally, if you go long here there is a chance of
the ball bouncing down back on to the green.
Hole 17 is a Par 5 at 460 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.2
A tricky par 5, the tee shot is from an elevated tee with a water hazard
on the right hand side so stay left with your drive. The second shot needs
to carry the water hazard in the middle of the fairway, then a short iron
to the green with a wall of earth at the back of the green so if you go
long there is a chance your ball will bounce back on to the green…if
you are lucky!
Hole 18 is a Par 3 at 176 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.10
The home hole and the bar awaits! This is a good finishing hole a long
par 3 with a carry over a barranca, if you are going to miss this green
miss left and usually the ball kicks down on to the green.
