Course Review

Hole 1 is a Par 4 at 400 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.2

El Plantio Golf club has a longish par 4 to start, there is OOB to the right but anything too far left is blocked out, also there is water front left of the green. I made a good start, left my second just short (forgot that in Spain the distance markers are to the front of the green and are 150 METRES!!) two putts for a solid 5.

Hole 2 is a Par 5 at 424 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.14

Only just a par 5 but uphill so plays longer. The bunker left is reachable easily off the tee and OOB again right, no trouble for the second shot ,the bunkers by the green are short so take enough club for the approach, recovered well for 6 after a poor tee shot.

Hole 3 is a Par 4 at 361 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.6

Downhill tee shot straight at the lake, it's not far so don't over club! The further right the shorter the second shot, so a fade is handy off the tee. Tricky green with a bunker right front and lake left. 6 after a wet second shot.

Hole 4 is a Par 5 at 495 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.10

Long, straight par 5, not too much trouble here. Par for me

Hole 5 is a Par 4 at 397(Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.12

Straight up par 4, small bunker right of fairway, second is slightly uphill so again take enough club.

Hole 6 is a Par 4 at 366 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.8

OOB to the right but you need to be left side of the fairway if you want to see the target. No trouble at the green, par for me again.

Hole 7 is a Par 3 at 188 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.16

First par 3, quite long, doesn't show on the course planner but there is a pond long left of the green. This looks shorter than it is so trust the yardage. Good up and down, another par, starting to like El Plantio!

Hole 8 is a Par 4 at 390 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.4

Tricky par 4, the bunker is only reachable if you are V long but beware the practice range right of the fairway, it's OOB. Second has to fly all the way, as there is a cross bunker short of the green. I missed right with my second and took 5.

Hole 9 is a Par 3 at 142 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.18

Short par 3, should be no bother, except it started to chuck down with rain and then thunder and lighting! So I missed a hurried par putt and ran for cover!

Hole 10 is a Par 4 at 379 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.5

45 minutes later, the sun is trying to break through again and this is what Golf in Spain should be like. Tough par 4 to start the back nine. Not too much off the tee, but second is distracting because of the stream and lake which run across in front of the green. Struggled on a wet fairway for a 6.

Hole 11 is a Par 4 at 363 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.5

Slightly downhill par 4, the fairway bunkers are reachable, also two bunkers right of the green and one long left. Still finding the wet fairways a problem 6 again.

Hole 12 is a Par 5 at 501 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.15

A good long hole, left half is the "Tiger line", not a problem with the second but keep it left as the green is elevated and there is a lake which is in play right and short of the green (Cant see it from the fairway though can you Jim!) mind you I took 7!

Hole 13 is a Par 4 at 333 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.3

Short on the yardage chart but all uphill so plays longer especially the second (add two clubs for the elevation!) The course planner shows the green as 100m long but it looks like they now in tend only to use the front 30m with the remainder being prepared grass but fairway. Back on the par trail!!

Hole 14 is a Par 3 at 184 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.7

Not for long! Very tricky long par 3 and one of the strangest golf holes in Spain. Right is OOB and dead, left is in intensive care! Must be straight or like me you'll be reaching for the ball pocket of your bag, a sad 6! Lovely view though!

Hole 15 is a Par 5 at 516 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.13

An easy par 5, downhill and not too much trouble. Pleased to get 6 after the 14th.

Hole 16 is a Par 4 at 278 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.17

A good short par 4, no trouble for the tee shot but again the approach needs enough club. The bunkers make the green look closer and caught me out. 5 for me. An English parkland looking hole on a golf course in Spain.

Hole 17 is a Par 4 at 396 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.1

El Plantio Golf clubs best hole and probably one of the hardest holes in Costa Blanca! It's Stroke index 1 and deserves to be! You must hit a long straight drive to reach in two if not lay up but still the approach needs to be well hit as there is nowhere to miss. I took 5 and was happy.

Hole 18 is a Par 3 at 189 (Metres) from the White Tees and S.I.11

Finishing with a short hole always feels odd, there are no hidden surprises here. Finished with a par.
