Rio Real Golf Course Review
Hole 1 is a Par 4 at 317 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.15
Rio Real Golf Club starts with a straight forward Par 4. Aim your tee
shot to the left of the tree in the centre of the fairway which will leave
the second shot straight to the pin.
Hole 2 is a Par 4 at 353 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.11
Dog-leg right so stay left of the fairway and this will leave a simple
shot to the green that is protected by three bunkers.
Hole 3 is a Par 3 at 137 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.18
You need to be long, over the flag, rather than short as there is a large
river directly in front of the green. Straight is good as well to avoid
large bunkers either side of the green.
Hole 4 is a Par 4 at 392 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.4
You know cross under the motorway and play down towards the Mediterranean
Sea so expect the wind top creep up a bit. It’s a slight dog-leg
left with bunkers either side of the fairway. The windswept green is guarded
by bunkers on the left, right and at the rear.
Hole 5 is a Par 4 at 383 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.6
You should now have the sea breeze behind you and you need some length
on this hole as the second shot needs to carry over the river again. Keep
the tee shot left of the fairway as there is a mound on the right side
that hides the green.
Hole 6 is a Par 3 at 164 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.13
Club selection is crucial here as you cannot afford to be short as you
tee off over a valley. Do not stray right either as there is a very unfriendly
bunker there.
Hole 7 is a Par 5 at 443 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.2
Elevated tee short and a dog-leg left. Don’t be too brash here as
there are some fairly dense pine trees to the left. Keep right off the
fairway which will make your approach shot easier to the green.
Hole 8 is a Par 4 at 398 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.7
Try and keep left of the fairway on this hole as it’s an easier
approach to the green and there are two bunkers on the left side. The
green is elevated and very small so be precise.
Hole 9 is a Par 5 at 457 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.9
Fairly flat Par 5. Play down the left side as the right side has lots
of trees. Three big bunkers greenside to grab your attention.

Hole 10 is a Par 4 at 330 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.8
A very vicious dog leg where you have two options! Option 1, play over
the pine trees as the green is only 210 metres (approx) away. Option 2,
Play it short and straight and go for the green on your third shot.
Hole 11 is a Par 4 at 336 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.12
A very elevated tee with some superb views. Put your tee shot nice and
central and you will have a clear view of the green. Take an extra club
as anything too shot will end up in the river.
Hole 12 is a Par 3 at 156 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.14
This is the best Par 3 at Rio Real. A huge lake wraps around the green
from back to front and you need to be deadly accurate into this long green.
Hole 13 is a Par 5 at 511 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.3
Tee off across the lake that just scared the hell out of you but its only
a 100 yard carry. Stay right on your tee shot and left on your second
shot and this will give you a better angle into the green.
Hole 14 is a Par 3 at 168 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.16
The last Par 3 at Rio Real is fairly straight forward. However, try and
aim right of the fairway as there is a big drop off on the left hand side.
Hole 15 is a Par 4 at 418 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.5
Tree lined fairway which needs an accurate tee short. There are three
large bunkers at the green which also need to be avoided.
Hole 16 is a Par 5 at 502 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.1
Stroke index one at Rio Real is a punishing Par 5. Tree lined fairways
that also have hidden bunkers between the trees. Accuracy and patience
required to reach the green that has three large bunkers guarding it.
Hole 17 is a Par 4 at 321 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.17
Probably the best chance of a birdie here than any other Par 4 on Rio
Real. Just watch out for the four bunkers either side and a little short
of the green.
Hole 18 is a Par 4 at 369 (Metres) from the White Tees
and S.I.10
The closing hole at Real Golf Club is a lot tougher than the stroke index
suggests. The green is hidden over on the right and you must keep you
tee shot left but don’t over hit as it will be swallowed by the
bunkers. The green is elevated so club selection is crucial.
